Tongding Petroleum Coke Dryer Helps Sichuan Xiangfenghua Cut Energy Use, Lift Output, and Stabilize Production
Sichuan Xiangfenghua's new petroleum coke drying project, built by Zhengzhou Tongding, is now up and running in Suining, Sichuan. The company, a subsidiary of Xiangfenghua, supplies anode materials to BYD and CATL.
The challenge was simple: petroleum coke is wet, sticky, oily, and hard. Traditional dryers can't handle it well-material sticks to the walls, clogs up, and wears out parts fast. Some plants lose over 15% of annual capacity just from dealing with blockages.
Tongding took a different approach. Instead of a single-drum dryer, we designed a dual-long-cylinder, three-pass system tailored to petroleum coke. The inner cylinder uses multi-bend lifting plates, the middle uses serrated ones. Together, they break up the material, keep it moving, and prevent sticking. No clogs, no downtime just to clean out the drum.
The numbers speak for themselves: the system runs 30 days straight without a hitch. Cleaning frequency dropped by 80% compared to traditional dryers. And because the three-pass design spreads material thinner and keeps it in the drum longer, throughput is over 20% higher than single-drum units of the same size.

Materials matter too. The drum is built with Baosteel NM400 steel-four to seven times more wear-resistant than standard manganese steel. The rollers and tires are forged from high-grade steel, with wear life three to five times longer than conventional parts. Overall, the equipment lasts three times longer and needs 70% less maintenance. That alone saves about 120 hours of production time per year.

On the energy side, heat exchange efficiency tops 90%. The system recovers exhaust heat, keeps exhaust temperature around 70°C, and delivers dried material at about 60°C. The result: energy consumption per ton is down 25-30%, and drying costs per ton are 28% lower. For a full year of operation, that adds up to over one million yuan in fuel savings alone. Plus, the smart PLC system handles temperature control automatically, so manual errors are out of the picture.
The dryer also meets strict emission standards, with dust concentration kept between 10 and 30 mg/Nm³. That takes the regulatory pressure off and keeps the plant running without environmental risks.
In short, Tongding delivered a system that solves the real problems of drying petroleum coke-less wear, fewer breakdowns, lower energy bills, and more output. It's not just a piece of equipment; it's a production tool that helps our customer stay competitive in the fast-moving battery materials market.
